The German company arrived on the islands in July 2022 and today already has a network of 10 stores spread across Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
For its part, Aldi landed last November in the Principality of Asturias with its first store in Gijón and is now expanding its presence in the region with its second supermarket. The institution is located in a municipality Serum, namely in La Fresneda, on the access road to the Azabache Shopping Center. In total, Aldi plans in 2023 to open about 50 new stores throughout the national territory. Among the company’s expansion plans are access to the autonomous city of Melilla and the opening of new establishments in Galicia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and Asturias.
The rest of the openings will be divided, mainly, between the company’s strategic regions, where it will continue to consolidate its presence: the Community of Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia and the Community of Valencia, which will focus almost half of the growth forecast in 2023.
The chain plans to employ more than 700 people during the first half of the year and exceed the figure of 7,400 employees across Spain by the end of June 2023.
